(Eldorado, TX) -- The state of Texas is taking control of a ranch where followers of Utah polygamist Warren Jeffs once lived. State authorities there say agents seized the Yearning For Zion Ranch in a secluded area of Eldorado in western Texas yesterday. It was six-years ago when federal agents raided the same property and removed hundreds of children following allegations of sexual abuse. Jeffs is now serving life in prison for his conviction for sexual assaulting two girls who he took as his wives.
(Kanab, UT) -- For the second straight year representative Mike Noel has authored, the state legislature has passed, and governor Gary Herbert has signed into law a measure to limit the policing authority of federal land management agents in state or local matters. A federal judge struck down certain parts of HB155 last year. The new bill, HB149, once again seeks to prevent federal agents from enforcing state and local statues outside their federal jurisdictions. Noel says when it comes to reasserting state and local rights under an ever-expanding federal over-reach there should be a five-pronged approach. The law does not limit the work of federal law enforcement such as FBI, US Marshall’s and federal drug enforcement .
(Ogden, UT) -- A man is finally in custody in Ogden following a standoff yesterday with SWAT officers. Authorities say the nearly four-hour standoff happened late in the day at a home on Grant Avenue. The man showed up with a handgun and refused to leave before the police were called. After the man surrendered, police discovered that he had several outstanding warrants and didn't want to be arrested.
(Undated) -- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is putting a label on people who rallied around a Nevada rancher in a fight with the government over grazing fees. That label is one of domestic terrorist. According to the "Las Vegas Journal-Review," Reid also said that cattle rancher Cliven Bundy doesn't respect his country. Bureau of Land Management officials backed down after a standoff with Bundy last weekend. Hundreds of protesters, including armed militia members, confronted the federal officials at Bundy's ranch 80 miles east of Las Vegas. Reid suggested Bundy's supporters posed a danger to the community. The Nevada Democrat also said Bundy thumbs his nose at authority. Bundy's family has been ranching on the land since the 19th Century.
