(Hurricane, UT) -- A 37-year-old Laverkin man faces multiple charges following a high speed chase and a stand-off with police that shut down I-15 in southern Utah for several hours. Jason Alley faces several charges including evading police and two counts of reckless endangerment plus failing to yield to an emergency vehicle. Two children that were in the car with him were unhurt. Police say the chase began in Laverkin when Alley failed to stop for an emergency vehicle. It finally ended in the southbound lanes of I-15 near mile marker 17 after Utah Highway Patrol troopers spiked Alley’s tires. Police say Alley was armed with a handgun and refused to exit the vehicle. Negotiators were called in and, about 8:30 last night, Alley peacefully surrendered. The two children were not hurt.
(Graham, WA) -- Two five gallon gasoline canisters were found at the scene of the deadly Powell house explosion in Washington State. Pierce County Sheriff spokesperson Ed Troyer says one can was emptied throughout the house and the other was found with the three bodies, which they believe was lit intentionally. Meanwhile, the cause of death for the Powell boys has been determined. The Pierce County medical examiner says seven-year old Charles and five-year old Braden Powell were murdered by "chops to the neck" as well as carbon monoxide poisoning prior to the house explosion. Officials believe a small axe or hatchet was used. The medical examiner is also listing the cause of Josh Powell's death as suicide. Police have not found any evidence suggesting the blast was connected to the 2009 disappearance of his wife, Susan Cox Powell.
(Salt Lake City, UT) -- A public hearing is on tap for an education measure that's generating a lot of buzz. Senate Bill 151 would allow donors to receive tax credits for giving money to scholarship organizations. The organizations would help students attend private schools. Those against the plan say public money shouldn't go to private schools.
(Salt Lake City, UT) -- Several state lawmakers are concerned about a new bill that would ban 16 and 17-year-old drivers from using their cell phones while driving. The measure got preliminary approval yesterday but some lawmakers say they may not support it again when they take a final vote later this week. Senator Daniel Thatcher says distracted driving is already illegal and this new proposal would be difficult for police to enforce.

(New York, NY) -- Jeremy Lin netted a career-high 28 points in his first NBA start as the shorthanded Knicks knocked off the Jazz, 99-88. Al Jefferson scored 22 points for the Jazz, who came up short for the third time in four games. Raja Bell had 15 points in the loss. Knicks forward Amare Stoudemire did not play in the wake of the death of his older brother. Fellow Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony had to leave in the first quarter due to a groin injury. Utah is right back in action tonight against the Pacers in Indiana. Tip-off is at 5:00 p.m.
(New York, NY) -- NBA commissioner David Stern is hoping Utah Jazz owner Greg Miller can play nice with former superstar Karl Malone. Stern told the "Salt Lake Tribune" that he wants a public spat between the two put to rest. Malone has said he believes the Jazz gave too much power to former guard Deron [[ Darren ]] Williams, which led to longtime head coach Jerry Sloan retiring. The Hall of Famer also complained about being forced to buy tickets from a scalper to a recent Jazz game. Miller responded by tweeting that Malone was lying about the tickets. Miller also blogged about Malone being as high-maintenance as ever, without anything to offset the grief and aggravation that comes with it. Miller also wrote that Malone is too unreliable and too unstable to be an assistant coach. Malone played 19 seasons with the Jazz and is the NBA's second all-time scorer behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
