(Salt Lake City, UT)  --  State Representative Suzanne Harrison is calling for a special session to address the possibility of a fireworks ban. Last week, Governor Cox said he doesn't have the authority to issue a statewide ban on fireworks, but Harrison says otherwise.

She says under the current drought state of emergency, the governor has the authority to suspend any penalties for local cities or counties that decide to enact additional restrictions. However, she added that the simplest way to deal with the issue would be to call for a special session and pass legislation to allow local governments to restrict fireworks.
